Hello, we are the Dippners: Father Ric, Mother Sonia, and our six children—Rickey, Nickey, Christopher, Alister, Diana, and Katrina. We’re a local family from Palm Springs, California, and if you saw one Dippner, the whole pack was likely not far behind. As a family of eight, we did everything together.
Ric Dippner was the adult kid at heart, always coming up with fun ideas for family enjoyment. In 1979, he purchased our Volkswagen Westfalia brand new, and it became our family wagon. We spent countless summers in this van, from camping trips to beach outings and long road trips to San Francisco. We all remember the terrifying hills of San Francisco in this beast of an automatic stick shift.
Tragically, our father, Ric Dippner, passed away in January 2020 from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). In his memory, we poured our efforts into getting the 1979 Volkswagen Westfalia up and running again to keep his joyful spirit alive. The oldest brother, Rickey, rebuilt the engine, while our mother and sister, Sonia and Katrina, worked tirelessly on a new paint job and the interior redesign of upholstery and woodwork.
At last, we collaboratively completed the restoration of our family wagon in July 2023. Now it’s time to share this Crafted Classic with the world.
